Cenares acquires high-cost medication, known as triple immunomodulatory therapy (Elecaftor – Ivacaftor-Tezacaftor)
The Peruvian Ministry of Health, through the National Center for the Supply of Strategic Health Resources (Cenares), has achieved a historic milestone in the fight against cystic fibrosis by acquiring 6,048 units of the triple immunomodulatory therapy drug. This medication is essential to slow the progression of the disease and improve the quality of life of patients, especially children and adolescents.
The acquisition of this high-cost medication, exceeding six million soles, is part of the government’s policy to guarantee access to essential medicines for all Peruvians. Patients with cystic fibrosis will be able to access this medication free of charge through the Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS).
The Deputy Minister of Public Health of the Ministry of Health, Ricardo Peña, delivered the drug known as triple immunomodulatory therapy (Elecaftor – Ivacaftor-Tezacaftor) to the representatives of the Fiqui Peru Association.
“Delivering the medication, which is unattainable for patients living with cystic fibrosis, has a special meaning, because it gives them hope for life,” the official stated.
The Deputy Minister highlighted the coordinated and efficient work that went into the purchase through Cenares, guaranteeing quality treatment for patients diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, which belongs to the group of rare and orphan diseases, with children and adolescents being the most benefited.
FIQUI PERÚ IN CENARES
The FIQUI PERÚ Association has expressed its gratitude to the Minister of Health, César Vásquez Sánchez, and the CENARES team for this achievement, calling it “The Door to Hope” for patients with cystic fibrosis.
“We thank the Minister of Health for his commitment to patients, and especially CENARES and its management team, who have worked diligently to comply with the rules and regulations in the execution of the purchase of the high-cost medication, intended for the treatment of rare and orphan diseases, such as cystic fibrosis,” said Cecilia Patricia Egoavil Montero Vda. de García, president of Fiqui-Peru.
For his part, César Rodríguez Rosado, Deputy Executive I of the Programming Directorate of
CENARES, he noted, “This achievement is the result of the dedicated work of our Director General, Juan Carlos Castillo Díaz, and the political will of the Minister of Health, Dr. César Vásquez Sánchez. I want to highlight the hard work of the CENARES staff, who strive to guarantee access to medicines for all Peruvians,” the official emphasized.
