MINISTERIAL RESOLUTION 558/2019/MINSA: Approves the Technical Health Standard for Neonatal Screening of various congenital diseases, including Cystic Fibrosis.
From FIQUI Peru we congratulate and thank the Minister of Health, Dr. Elizabeth Zulema Tomás González, for approving this Ministerial Resolution, because with it, Law 29885 on Mandatory Neonatal Screening for Cystic Fibrosis will finally be put into practice.
The approval of this technical standard means, for those born with cystic fibrosis, timely diagnosis and hope for a better life for them and their families.
The regulation also guarantees that its application is mandatory in all Public Health Service Provider Institutions – IPRESS, at all levels of care of the Ministry of Health, of the regional governments, local governments, of the Social Health Insurance (EsSalud), of the Health of the Armed Forces and of the National Police of Peru, private and mixed.
Newborn screening was the first step that allowed cystic fibrosis patients in other Latin American countries, Europe, the United States, Canada, and Australia to reach adulthood and enjoy a better quality of life.
We are happy and hopeful that, with this resolution, the story of cystic fibrosis patients in Peru will also change, so that they can overcome early adolescence and become productive members of their families and their country.
